Plant Care Instructions

Please consult the following instructions for our plants.  They were grown from seed or cuttings in our own garden -- right here in Gig Harbor, WA.  Great care was taken with these plants and we want you to enjoy them as much as possible!

Tomatoes

Sungold - These plants are considered by many to be the "sweetest cherry tomato ever."  They produce clusters of bright orange tomatoes.  They are perfect right off the vine or in salads, pasta or even roasted.  Plant needs and characteristics:

  • Full sun (6+ hours/day)

  • Moist soil

  • Fertilize every 3-4 weeks

  • Need support via trellis, netting or stake

  • May grow to 7' tall and 24" wide

Black Krim - These plant produce purple-ish red tomatoes with a bold and sweet earthy flavor.  It is extremely popular among fine chefs.  Plant needs and characteristics:

  • Full sun (6+ hours/day)

  • Moist soil

  • Fertilize every 3-4 weeks

  • Needs support via stake or cage

  • May grow to 5' tall and 4' wide

Herbs

Basil - This plant grows dark green leaves with a spicy scent and taste and is a great match with our tomatoes!  Plant needs and characteristics:

  • Full sun (6+ hrs/day)

  • Moist, well-drained soil

  • Fertilize every 4-5 weeks

  • Grows to 2' tall and 18" wide

Chives - Leaves offer a mild onion flavor that makes an excellent addition to egg dishes, cheeses, salads, soups, potatoes and butter sauces.​

  • Full Sun (6+ hrs/day)

  • Moist soil

  • Fertilize every 4-5 weeks

  • May grow to 2' tall and 16" wide

Cilantro - Strong flavored leaves used widely in Latin-American, Caribbean and Asian dishes -- perfect for fresh salsa and guacamole!

  • Full to part-sun (3+ hrs/day)

  • Moist soil

  • Fertilize every 4-5 weeks

  • Grows to 12" tall and 10" wide

Dill - Seeds flavor pickles; leaves enhance salads, soups, omelets and vegetables. 

  • Full Sun (6+ hrs/day)

  • Well-drained soil

  • Fertilize every 4-5 weeks

  • Grows to 15-20" tall

Marjoram - A close cousin of oregano, marjoram has a similar appearance, with grassy, slightly lemony leaves that make a great addition to poultry dishes, herb butters, and egg recipes.

  • Full Sun (6+hrs/day)

  • Well-drained soil

  • Fertilize every 4-5 weeks

  • Grows 10-24" tall

Mint - Mint is commonly used in beverages like mint tea and mint juleps, as well as dishes like Vietnamese pho and Thai

stir-frys.

  • Full Sun to Part Shade

  • Moist soil

  • Fertilize every 4-5 weeks

  • Grows 12-18" tall and 18-24" wide

Oregano - Oregano is a fragrant herb in the mint family with a sweet, slightly peppery flavor. This earthy herb is commonly used in its dried form throughout cooking in dishes like tomato sauce, and is a staple in Turkish, Italian, Greek, and Mexican cuisine.

  • Full Sun

  • Moist to well-drained soil

  • Fertilize every 4-5 weeks

  • Grows 16-18" tall

Rosemary - Rosemary is used in dishes ranging from roasted fall vegetables to whipped goat cheese.  Chefs use rosemary sprigs to infuse hot oil or butter for cooking meat, vegetables, and other rich rosemary recipes.

  • Full Sun (6+hrs/day)

  • Well-drained soil

  • Fertilize every 4-5 weeks

  • Grows 12-36" tall

Sage - Sage is used in both fresh and dried forms and pairs well with hearty fall vegetables and warm, comforting recipes. Chefs also use sage to create a browned sage butter that can be spooned over pasta and more. Popular sage recipes include classic Thanksgiving stuffing; white bean, sausage, and butternut squash soup.

Thyme - Thyme is frequently added to hearty dishes like pork loin, lemony chicken breasts, and fatty meats, as it can hold its own against rich flavors.
